Overview
The Exchange is a tool for Rhode Islanders, small businesses and their employees to easily compare health insurance options, learn if they qualify for tax credits, and eventually sign up for other programs.
Here are a few of the ways the Exchange will make a difference when it opens in October of 2013.
Financial Help Buying Health Insurance
- This Exchange will immediately offer health insurance tax credits to low and middle income Rhode Islanders. Very low income Rhode Islanders will also qualify for free or low cost health insurance.
Options for Small Businesses
- Any small business owner knows that buying employee health insurance is confusing and expensive. Rhode Island's Exchange is here to help. When small businesses buy plans on the Exchange, their employees can pick the health plan that works best for them.
More Choices in One Place
- The Exchange aims to make buying health insurance as easy as going online and buying a plane ticket. The Exchange will allow for clear, side-by-side comparisons of your health insurance options, offering plans from different companies and for different health needs. No access to a computer? No problem. The Exchange can also walk you through the process on the phone or in person.
Long-term Improvements in Rhode Island's Health Care System
- The Exchange aims to not only offer tax credits, but also improve the health of Rhode Islanders and bring about innovative improvements to the state's health care system. This is part of a larger collaboration that makes sure Rhode Islanders are getting the right care in the right place at the right time.
This website offers both basic information about the Exchange and detailed documents about the state's work so far. We look forward to hearing from you as we work together to make health insurance affordable and accessible for all Rhode Islanders.
