Christine Ferguson
Christine Ferguson became the director of Rhode Island Health Benefits Exchange in June of 2012, but she's no newcomer to the world of health reform. Ferguson has devoted her entire career to improving America's health care system.
From 2003-2005, Ferguson served as the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and played a key role in reforming the way residents get health care. As the Director of Rhode Island's Department of Human Services from 1995-2001, she shaped RIte Care into a robust health program for children and families. From 1981-1995 she served as Counsel and Deputy Chief of Staff to the late U.S. Senator John H. Chafee and helped design an early version of our nation's health care overhaul.
Most recently, Ferguson served on the faculty at George Washington University's School of Public Health and Health Services, where she taught students about her passions – improving health care services, access, financing and health outcomes for all populations.
The Rhode Island Health Benefits Exchange Advisory Board makes recommendations to the Governor on how to run and set up the Exchange.
